Community in action

I headed across town for a meeting around 11:30AM on April 14th. I noticed two ladies weeding the planting strip in front of the sound wall on the north side of Blossom Hill Road, just before the westbound BHR entrance to northbound 101. This is the kind of community action that will help make Santa Clara County a better place for all of us. Kudos to them for taking the time to help beautify our community, and many thanks to whomever they are!

Government should be focused on enabling community involvement. By acting in community together, we can accomplish great things. Helping keep our county clean is easier than you think.

A prime example of this is San Jose's anti-graffiti work. You can call and report any graffiti that you see (408.277.8900) or take pictures and upload them to the city's web site for reporting graffiti. Better still, gather a group of friends and call (408) 277-3208 and ask for help in learning how to clean it up yourself. They will teach you how to clean up tags, and provide you with the supplies you need to do it safely.

Also, Earth Day is coming and there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate and pitch in. Surprisingly, none of them are located in the Bay Area city with a Green Vision! Perhaps, like fireworks displays, they have fallen victim to the dreaded budget axe?
